Liar, Liar, Pants of Fire
Hello again fellow citizens, neighbors and friends. I hope all is well with you and yours. If you’re local and ever want to meet, just send an email and we'll set it up. Drinks (non-alcoholic) or lunch on me as long as it isn't too many people too fast ;-).
What do you think about this title? It might not be what you think unless you happened to watch my March 18th video short. And it might be something you've never thought about and it's rarely discussed. Question: Is it ever acceptable to lie? Is it "always" a sin? If we're honest, I'm sure we would all say we have lied before- even as a born-again Christian. Thankfully, it's not the/an unpardonable sin. When we sin as a Christian we get convicted by the Holy Spirit that indwells us and ask God to forgive us to restore any lost intimacy (1st John 1:8-10). I'm certainly not advocating lying in of itself or as a way of life. We should do everything we can by the grace of God not to lie and sin. I'm also not suggesting we tell a "white lie." There's no such thing. Oh, we might lie to spare someone's feelings or say we're fine when we aren't :-). But that's not what I'm getting at.
There are two instances in the Bible where someone lied to protect life: 1) The Hebrew Midwives when they were told to kill newborn boys and didn't so it (Exod.1:15-21); 2) Rahab when she was asked by the King about 2 Hebrew spies. In Exod. 1:20-21 it says that God dealt well with the midwives and established households for them because they feared God. I don't recall anything negative in God's word or condemning Rahab for lying to protect the 2 spies (Josh. 2:1-24). So, what if lying isn't a sin in those cases? God indeed determined what sin is! "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." Study what that means more specifically. Of course there are places that mention lying in Proverbs and the New Testament. Maybe in those situations it is sin but God still shows favor because of preserving life and helping His people.
So what's my point in all this? Between 2nd Amendment challenges by the federal government and some states already banning AR-15s because they think it's an assault rifle, it could one day come to our state. Terrorists and criminals are crossing the southern border. If Donald Trump doesn't make it back to the presidency and "they" come looking for those that supported him, do you tell him you did? Tell them your spouse, children or grandchildren did? What if the FBI on behalf of the CDC came looking for those that didn't get the vaccine and boosters for COVID? What if criminals ask you if there are others in your home and they're hiding? Do you think all of this is far-fetched? If so, you probably have not been paying attention. Or maybe you're still watching the lamestream media news only?
A lying tongue is one of the 6 things the Lord hates according to Prov. 6:16-19. Again, it shouldn't be a way of life and we should do everything we can to avoid it. But when it comes to stuff like I mentioned above, I think I know what I would do ;-) :-). Even so Lord Jesus come! But if not yet? Thanks for reading.
